Topper (Roland Young) encounters a sarcastic ghost (Joan Blondell) who insists that our intrepid hero help her find her murderer. The plot unravels in Carrington Hall, a fabulous haunted mansion, replete with mysteries and a phantom that passes through solid stone. Beset by falling objects, dark, mysterious corridors and hidden traps, Topper must persevere to solve the dark crime. Of course the setting would be incomplete without the dastardly butler, the prissy housekeeper, a performing seal, Topper's irascible chauffeur "Rochester" and Ms. Blondell's disappearing corpse.
